- Boomers’ 401k plans were battered in the 2008-09 market meltdown – just as the first wave of boomers prepared to retire.
- About 15% of homeowners 55 to 64 recently owed more on their homes than the homes were worth.
- More than half of affluent 60 year olds (with about $1 million in investable assets) are revamping their retirement plans. The most popular strategy – work longer.
- Today’s 50 year old boomers anticipate retiring four years later (at age 67) than 50 year olds did in 1996.
- Among 50 year olds, 41% say they will never be financially capable of retiring; 23% have not started to save.

Janet, I feel this is a very important article. I agree with you. Many baby boomers are confronted with difficult decisions because of the economic times we have been through. Stock market investments and home equity have been greatly diminished for many.
Some have decided to follow the path of working longer. This is a real shame for those who dislike their jobs and actually want out.
Like you say, there are alternatives. Internet marketing is one of those alternatives.
Most baby boomers have great experience, are well educated, and have so much to offer. Many have had successful careers. If they can find a business that they can be passionate about, they can earn far more income and find so much more satisfaction in what they are doing.
Many will find the work from home, internet network marketing industry as a great alternative for utilizing their abilities and helping others.
